We work with all of the same textbooks in our English classes as in the non-bilingual classes. However, in the bilingual branch, we use additional practice materials and readings in addition to standard class work.

As the class offerings remain the same as in the parallel classes, even in the later forms, no level is disadvantaged. The same class material and course offerings are available.

What is to be considered in the decision for „bilingual“?

  • As a matter of principle, every child who fulfils the pre-conditions for successful attendance at the Gymnasium is welcome to participate in the bilingual option.
  • In addition, no special prior knowledge is expected in the bilingual classes.
  • High achievement in the native language is an important precondition for the bilingual option. An interest in languages – in reading, narrating, and story-writing – as well as the joy of discovering the English language in primary school, is ideal for a child intending to pursue the bilingual option.
  • It is important that students enjoy learning under new circumstances, that they are ready to regularly work on their English vocabulary and that they are able to concentrate for longer periods of time on one subject.
  • The registration for the bilingual branch is first available for the secondary level 1 (year 5).  At the end of year 9 and 10 for G8 (12 school years) resp. year 10 and 11 for G9 (13 school years), the decision to continue with this option can be made again.
