Engagement with the English language and culture takes place during English lessons. Our bilingual classes offer even richer opportunities for intercultural learning. This means an education that encourages more worldliness and tolerance.

1. The number of German universities with bilingual degree programmes is constantly increasing. But a growing number of students today seeks a course of study or education in foreign countries. Therefore we prepare our upper level students intensively for these possibilities. The graduates of the bilingual programme also obtain a certificate in English on which their English language education is certified.

2. Our school enables and motivates students at all levels to take part in widely acknowledged external language diplomas and exams (Cambridge FCE und CAE, Bundeswettbewerb Fremdsprachen, Big Challenge).

3. CertiLingua: The European Commission would like to establish an internationally recognized certificate which documents the above-average multi-lingual, bilingual, and international competence of students in public schools. The goal is to increase international recognition for the educational achievements of public school students. This award of excellence is currently being developed by North Rhine-Westphalia, in cooperation with other federal German states and institutions of European partner countries. The first pilot schools have been tested in the school year 2007/2008. We are one of 22 pilot schools in NRW to award this certificate to our students of the bilingual branch.

4. Our exchange programme with partner schools takes place both within Germany, through cooperation with the International School of Düsseldorf, as well as Europe-wide, with partner schools in England (Blue Coat School in Reading: stay with families and professional internship, students´exchange visit) and Sweden (Tibble-Gymnasium in Täby/Stockholm: students´exchange visit). Furthermore, we initiate worldwide email and pen-pal projects, e.g. with schools in the USA, Canada, and Australia.

5. We also offer first-hand experiences of other countries through foreign language teaching assistants from various Anglo-Saxon countries.

6. Interested students can also exercise their theatrical creativity while practicing their English skills in our English drama group.

7. The bilingual quality of our school is further reflected in our self-learning centre. We are also in the process of extending our bilingual library with English textbooks and literature.
